Re: Take a Gander

Not to bad...looks like its a victim of the dreaded slip on pad. A friend has his grandfather's model 94 with a slip on pad glued in place....pity!

Re: Forearm screw for early model 8

Ok, I ordered a replacement screw, finally got it in, but the threads in the boss wouldn't hold it...Sooooo...I took a 8-32 tap and die, used the tap on the boss and forearm escutcheon, then chased the threads on the screw to 8-32. The replacement screw head was too long, like .10" too long, so...

Re: bolt won't release: I am a true noob!

Adam Lee, don't feel so bad...I did the same exact thing today, and spend the better part of the afternoon looking thru reference material and diagrams before I got on here and found the answer, I was on the verge of calling Brownell's...man did I feel stupid. live and learn.

Re: Howdy from Texas

Cam, what part of the Great State do you hail from? I ordered the parts I needed from Joe, and after a long-suffering wait I finally got my parts in. The peep works fine but the screw head was too long, but some time with a file and all is well. I told my best friend I'm hunting with a 105 year old ...

Re: Howdy from Texas

I emailed Joe at aperturesnmore.com and he is making me a screw and sending a new aperture, so I'll soon be in business. Thanks all.

Re: Forearm screw for early model 8

Thanks Dwalt; the threads on the boss are stripped, and rather than replace the whole boss I think I can fill the boss and re-tap it to correct size. If I cant get a correct size screw I may just get one that looks close and tap the boss for that.

Again, thanks,

Re: Howdy from Texas

Sarge, thanks for the info, I sent an email to Joe and I'm awaiting the earliest tidings.... Phirbird, you don't have to camp on my porch, although you'd be welcome. There's 1500 acres of river bottom public land about 30 miles from the end of my nose, its chock full of all manner of game. I've hunt...

Re: Howdy from Texas

Phirbird, nothing on the side of my Remington...so I guess it was made before the model 8 title was adopted. Either way, I look forward to shooting it, and swatting a big hog and buck this fall. I have to find a replacement forearm screw first, been working the phones today with no luck. Regards, Et...

Forearm screw for early model 8

Hi all, my Remington Autoloading Rifle, circa 1908, had the forearm screw stripped out long ago, a swivel was soldered on the barrel jacket, and a undersize replacement screw was epoxied in the forearm. When I bought it the seller broke the rifle down for transport, and learned the forearm screw was...

Howdy from Texas

Howdy y'all, I've grown up hunting in the river bottoms and post oak of north Texas and short range rifles are perfect around here. I've wanted a 35 Remington for years, and the model 8 always looked like a wonderful rifle. I recently bought a model 8 in 35 Remington, serial # 94XX, which I'm told i...
