Model 8 cleaned and shot

Took my recently acquired Model 8 down to bare bones and cleaned her up. She wasn't as dirty as I thought she'd be but dirty enough still the same. I was able to spot the problem with the sticking safety I'd mentioned earlier. The outer lever was bent just enough to get hung up on the detent on the ...

Re: difficult safety-sometimes

Never mind, just looked at some of the pics on the site. My guess it is the finish of the lever. I'm learning.

Clue me in as to why it looks like a replacement.

Thanks, David

difficult safety-sometimes

I've noticed in working 'my new to me' 8 that the safety lever sometimes works smoothly and at other times is extremely hard to move from safe to fire. Anyone experienced this and have a cure? It may just need to be thoroughly cleaned, haven't done that yet.
Thanks,

David

Don't forget, they usually require roommates! Good luck with your shooting. Have some real fun with it. Thanks for your time Roger I'm already looking. Keep that between us though, my wife thinks one gun of one type is enough. Strange, huh? I posted pictures of the rifle here. http://thegreatmodel8....

Model 8 recently acquired

Here's my model 8 that I got off of Gun Broker. She's not the prettiest thing ever but serviceable. Haven't had a chance to fire it yet. Bore is good but not bright. Rifling is prominent and defined. There's flecking on the bluing. Screw heads all look good. Wood has usual wear and tear plus that bl...

Received my model 8

Some of you probably saw this gun on Gun Broker. She's not much to look at but I got her at what I think was a very reasonable price based on what i see they're currently going for. I'll post pictures later today. In person the gun looks better than the Gun Broker photos did. That was pleasing. The ...

Re: For trade factory box of 30 Remington

Any offers on 35 Rem ammo or brass considered. What do you have? I don't need the 30 Rem ammo, just a temptation to buy another model 8/81.

PM me

Thanks David

For trade factory box of 30 Remington

I have a full box of 30 Remington 170 grain core-lokt in green and yellow box with Bridgeport address and R30REM stamped on each end flap. I bought these several years ago from a boating store (at one time was an outdoor store that sold guns) in Birmingham. Ever bought ammunition you had no gun for?...

Re: How many reloaders do we have?

I've reloaded since 1990 and have cast bullets since 2000. I reload for 13+ cartridges and cast for about half of those. I reload the 35 rem more than anything else. I have a Lee 6 hole mold that cast a 200 grain rn. It was a group buy with the cast bullet association if I remember correctly. It is ...

Re: Checking in from Middle Tennessee

Roll Tide indeed! I'm a graduate of the University and my father attended there and my grandfather was a graduate from there. It's a disease too like Model 8's and Mausers (I have several of those, 91's and 93's/95's). Then there's broomhandles, and M1 carbines and Ballester Riguad's, you know, vari...

Checking in from Middle Tennessee

I've lurked around for awhile. Finally bought a Model 8. Years ago my wife had a rifle built for me on a small ring Mauser action in 35 Remington. I've always loved that cartridge and it's a perfect woods big game cartridge in my humble opinion. Well you can't do much research on the 35 Rem at all w...
