Hello, The problem you're having is most likely debris in the butt stock action spring hole. Take a long straight faced screw driver and drop it in the action spring hole of the stock. With moderate pressure, spin the screw driver to loosen the excess debris that is at the base of the action spring...

You're welcome Bob. The EE designates that your rifle was made in October (E) of 1936 (E). The first letter is always the month of the year. Remington used the word BLACKPOWDER and added the letter X to the end, for the 12 months of the year. The date code BLACKPOWDERX was started in 1921. There's ...

Very cool old Remington. What you have there is a "First Year Production" 1936 Remington Model 81, (Serial #989) with a Lyman 41 side mounted receiver sight. The Model 81 was not offered in the 300 Savage caliber in 1936. I'm assuming that you determined the 1946 year of production by the barrel co...

Re: Remington 81 "Special Police" FOR SALE!!
The auction has been ended. The seller was a New Register (NR) on Gunbroker.com. My guess is someone got ahold of the seller, gave them a song and a dance over the phone and got this rifle way below market value. It appears to be the hammer end of the firing pin to me. Wildgoose, That will work just fine, as the bolt carrier and bolts are the same on the model 8's and model 81's. However, I have noticed in the past that firing pin lengths will vary. Wildgoose, That is a neat Model 8 and a great story that correlates with the September, 1930 (DY) date code on the barrel.
