Cast bullets for 25 rem

I was looking at casting, and gas checking the rcbs 120gn sp and loading it over 21.5gn of 3031 with a large mag primer. Just wondering if there any other caster here that my have some insight on the subject

How are you measuring the charge? Powder dippers, powder drop, trickler and a scale? My just be a inconsistent throw of the powder drop or scoop of a powder dipper. When I use the powder drop I tap the drop before every throw to settle the powder.

That dimpled primer is a sign of low pressure, witch would cause failure to eject, not familiar with 35 Remington but if you have noticed a dirty barrel this would also suggest a low powder charge or to long of a coal.

I like the old bluing as well, my 25 rem although being re-done is going to stay true to factory to the best I can do, but for my shooters I would like to take a discarded piece of swiss and get her running, then take off the old sights and add a double post rear sight at the back end of the receive...

How do you guys fill the holes? My thought for these holy relics was to weld and then cerakote but that's just cause I want to pick up dead rifle and put a new life in it, is there a way to weld and then blue it without seeing where the holes were?

I find these "holy relics" to be a great buy, I've been looking for a few to use as everyday shooters to raise my boys on, and let the friends learn a thing or two, one just sold for 400 on GB was surprised it got that high

haha I need to change the thread to non contact thermometer uses, that's another good idea, I'll have to steal since I also started to develop a load for my 270 win using the new imr 4451, and accubond long range bullets test how insensitive to temperature change it really is

I've been looking for a excuse to buy a non contact thermometer, after cutting I can pick the case up with my hands so I doubt it's getting 400+ but then again Im not familiar with how fast brass dissipates heat, I also did some research to the oil I'm using and the flash temp is at 410 degrees and ...

They fit in the rcbs #19, my Lee #19 shellholder can sometime fit a shell so I end up using the Lee #1 but you will need to put a shim under the case as it can mar the top of the extractor groove

wow, my marbles sight doesn't do that, does your say marble gladstone on the side I'm not sure but you might have the Lyman sight, they look very simular but I wouldn't know for sure as I'm only familiar with my marble sight, witch the aperture just screws and isn't as cool with that flip up feature.

If you are in a hurry I've used the head of finish nails to punch out pins on other projects cause they have a concave head just fthought food for thought

Haha 100 bucks for a set of eight, at that price I rather make my own! My pins are flat from the 103 years of others beating the snaught out of them, in fact I never knew there were pin heads to start with until now

It doesn't need to be a cup tip, I just use a Bostitch 1/16 or 1.5mm punch to get it out

Describe what was loose, the front sight does move side to side, but if the base was loose a competent gunsmith should be able to fix it

Dry firing will fatigue the firing pin if you have a original I would never dry fire it, but if it's a replacement buy a extra and go for broke

Is your gun chambered in 35? those necks look wider then 32, and the ring on the tops of the necks makes me to think the case is exspanding passed the throat

I did weigh them. Before I loaded them the lightest was 114.4 gn and the heaviest was 114.8 gn. They worked didn't shoot anything to get a good idea on expansion or bring a chronograph, but at 75 yards I got a decent group for just wanting to see if they would cycle the action properly, with the lighter bullet I did notice a little bit more fouling

Man should have put a pic of the spitz and round nose in there but if you can't tell the bullet to the left is the hollow point and the one to the right is the flat nose
