I have two model 8's without a serialized yoke. Did the yoke( i have also heard it called the barrel jacket/shroud head) have the guns serial number stamped at the bottom during the manufacture or was it stamped during a repair. Or is it possible a serialized yoke was replaced during a repair with a...

Re: To disassemble or not?
I have taken at least 10 completely apart and if you don't have the CBR tool, i agree that the machinist ruler of the correct thickness (.075-.078) and an adjustable wrench is the way to go. I do not loosen the barrel nut or the Barrel Jacket Bushing while it is attached to the receiver, instead i u...

You need to comission a tool like this because your tabs will break when trying to loosen a stubborn BJB. I use a machinist square ruler of the correct thickness with a large adjustable wrench in place of the tool shown because it is not available

the picture (#10) you removed was taken from above showing the receiver and only the tapered riser of the stock just behind the upper tang, from that angle it appeared to be a crack. Nice 8 with better pictures.

My way of preventing a front sight block breakage while drifting is taking a spring loaded clothespin, gluing it, straighten the angle on the inside to fit between the jacket and the sight as well as reducing the height so the jacket sits flat on a table.

I have a 35 Rem barrel that is too crusted to shoot, is it possible to rechamber it to another caliber that won't tear up the gun. The blade of a machinist's square works great with a 16 inch adjustable wrench. Be careful not to use too much force and loosen the pin in the barrel jacket/barrel jacket head that aligns them.
