Re: looking for my first 8, 81, 14, or 141 in .35 Remington
Adam - not quite in the $400 range, but... I have an 81 in 300 Savage w/ Stith scope mount and Savage 2.5x7 scope. Stith mount allows use of iron sights. Def a shooter. If interested, pls shoot me an email for details/pix. I don't get here often enough. Email is myerssw@knology.net. Thanx Steve

Re: Model 8 in 300 Savage?!?
Follow up (dumb) question. See where you guys say that a bbl/caliber change is possible in an 81. Also that the 300 Savage and 35 Rem share the same spring set, AND it sounds like the same bolt/bolt face... If all the above is true, what does it take to swap out an 81 from 300 Savage to 35 Remington...

Re: Model 8 in 300 Savage?!?
Thanx guys. Kinda what I thought from my research 0 but must admit I am VERY new at these! But FWIW, there were TWO of these on sale on GB, from two diff sellers! I asked the one guy and he was confirmed that receiver and bbl (shroud?) had same serial #. No clue what might/not say... I know the one ...

Model 8 in 300 Savage?!?
OK - from all the research I have done/seen, the Model 8 did NOT come in 300 Savage. 300 Savage was only offered later, in the Model 81. Reason I ask is TWO sellers have listings for Model 8s in 300 Savage on Gunbroker right now. One is DEF an 8, as seen in the pix. No show of caliber on bbl. Other ...

Re: weaver side mount 7
I have an scoped 81 300 Savage (1947) that I would be willing to trade for a non-scoped gun in either 300 Savage or 35 Remington. Mine has a Stith mount and a 2-7 scope.
If you, or anyone else is interested, pls email me @ myerssw@knology.net. I don't check her very often. Thanx

Re: M81 Recoil pad
I am now using a 'sissy pad' for range work. Adds less than 1/2" LOP. I found something the other day - a slip on boot, w/ various thickness foam inserts. Only $15. Think I will give it a try before I cut the stock. As I shoot and hunt the rifle, and reload for it, if I determine it is somethin...

M81 Recoil pad
Just picked up a M81/300 Savage. I really didn't believe - until I shot it - that recoil would be that bad. But, as others have said, it is... Before you beat me up about keeping it original, consider the following. It is not original. Been drilled/tapped/two holes filled for scope mount. Now has a ...

Re: New (to me) Mod 81
It certainly looks god enough for shooting and carrying in the woods and not likely the price is going down (as they say with collectables "I bought it too soon" rather then I paid too much). :D 81 .300Savage was also my first in 8/81, only previous rifle I had shot was a Ruger 300WSM... ...

Re: New (to me) Mod 81
In my opinion, the main drawback of the .300 Savage in the Model 81 is that i would describe the recoil as being brutal, especially from the bench. You would not notice that so much in a hunting scenario. Due to the anticoagulant blood medication I take, I must use a "Sissy Bag" (and ther...

Re: New (to me) Mod 81
Welcome aboard the forum for all of us rem8/81 nuts. Congrats on your Gb purchase, I looked at the rifle while it was up for auction and it seemed OK other than being tapped for a scope. You said you bought it as a shooter so shoot away and have some fun with it. But be aware, that they're addictiv...

Re: Remington Model 8 and Model 141
LOL! Just picked up a M81 in 300 Savage. More because I wanted a 300 Savage - and Sav 99s in good shape are high! - so the 81 was my ticket...
Also think a 14/141 would be way cool. Want one in 35 Rem - even tho I have a Marlin 336 in 35 Rem. Hopefully soon I can have a pic like yours of both!

Re: New (to me) Mod 81
Ok - shot today. WAS surprised at the recoil of the 300 Savage. But WAS also a metal butt plate. This one is NOT a collector - too many rust pits. Def a shooter. Think I may simply put a recoil pad on it and hunt the snot out of it. I know my Sav 99/284 Win doesn't have the recoil of the 81/300 Sav ...

Re: New (to me) Mod 81 - showed up
Well, it ain’t what I would call purtty… Had some rust/pitting not disclosed. Not worth any more than I paid for it/maybe tad less. Did clean up pretty decently. Will do a little more work on it as I shoot it and play with it. Wood had the expected dings, but is in very good shape, especially consid...

Re: New (to me) Mod 81
Thanx Goose. Really looking fwd to this one. Betting I am going to enjoy it as much as my Savage 99 (in 284 Win) and my 6.5x55 Swedes. I am looking at a Speer, Rem, Sierra or Nosler 150. Prob going to work with IMR 4895. Seems the recommended powder in some manuals. Now have three rifles I have yet ...

New (to me) Mod 81
Just picked up a Model 81 on GB. Looks like it has a Stith mount (w/ scope - Weaver?). Bought as a shooter. Is 300 Savage cal. Have read through the forums. Will potentially reload for it. Any gotchas for this thing? I do see that not recommended to completely disassemble. Any advice on factory 300 ...
