Re: reloading the 8/81

Thanks Roger. I posted on another thread my history with the model 8 as being a bit unusual in that out here in the wide open west, a model 8 in 35 was my grandfather's deer/elk gun during all of my formative years. I can only assume he was using Remington Core-Lokt ammo as he did not reload. The ol...

reloading the 8/81

A question on working pressures in the model 8/81's: Nearly everything I read, including Ken Water's articles, a half dozen reloading manuals, and of course everyone's $.02 worth on the internet would have a fellow believing that the 8/81's shouldn't be loaded any hotter than the 35k SAAMI spec for ...

Re: MODEL 14 PROJECT FINISHED

Beautiful chunk of walnut on that rifle. Very well done Sir. I bought my first model 14 just last year. I went into the local pawn and there was this rifle like nothing I had ever seen. My first thought was it was a shotshell shucker. Of course I had to have it. It turned out to be a 32 Rem. Since t...

Re: model 81 barrel lock spring

Jack First had a used hammer lock spring, $9, and I also ordered a magazine indicator spring for $23, assuming it might be one that would fatigue and snap on me. So (cross fingers), my problems are solved. I took a pic of the gun and tried posting it, but file size is too large, I will re-size and g...

Re: model 81 barrel lock spring

Thank you so much Cam. I was referred to the Jack First folks in SD by Jim of the Gun works video posted here. He was quick to reply to an email I sent him. I will call them in the morning. If they have one (or two ) in stock I will buy from them, and you can hang on to yours, unless you prefer I bu...

model 81 barrel lock spring

Looking for a barrel lock with attached spring, and or just the barrel lock spring. this is for a model 81 35 Rem.

Numrich has the barrel lock for $23 in stock. They are sold out on the spring. So can I assume the barrel lock from Numrich comes WITHOUT the spring??

thanks, Kendall

Re: bolt lock back

Thank You for the warm welcome. I managed to take the rifle apart last night and after cleaning it and comparing parts to diagrams, the problem was evident. The barrel lock spring is missing. So now the burning question becomes: Who has one to sell me??? I suppose the barrel lock with the spring att...

bolt lock back

Hi, new here, not new to the Model 8/81's A little background. My first intro to the model 8 was growing up in northern Utah, my grandfather had one in 35 Rem caliber and used it for deer and elk hunting. This is the only rifle I ever remember him having for big game hunting from the late 50's until...
