Someone got a very nice FN reasonable. Stock looks to be uncut and a little elbow grease it will shine. Just add a period correct scope and you’re done. Anybody here end up with it?

Re: Bolt carrier binding when it travels back
I recently had this problem and found the bolt handle was rubbing on the receiver. Remove bolt handle and cycle the action with a screwdriver or dowel ( take care as you don’t want to scratch the receiver). If the bolt moves freely this is likely the cause. My rifle would work when cycled by hand bu...

Re: Tangs screws
This is the screw that holds the hammer spring and trigger spring. It is under a lot of torque when factory installed and will not come out easily. It doesn’t need to be removed for dissembling the rifle. Most attempts end up ruining the slot and this may be the previous owners way of making it look...

Re: Rear sight - marked or not?
The Great Remington 8 book by John Henwood suggests all 4,913 FNs may have been made prior to the outbreak of World War 1 in 1914. The book also reads the Model 1900 was dropped from FN catalogs in 1929. That’s about as close as you can get for manufacturing dates.

Life gets in the way a lot but this is still a great forum . Lots of great information here but very few have 8s and even fewer FNs. Maybe not enough of the new generation using these old springpoles.

FC7BD86D-CDA4-43E9-8761-D4EBBBD0CC95.jpeg . This is an FN rear sight( round barrel) and the serial number should match the rifle . Cam is correct, Browning rear sights have the rifle serial number stamped on the underside. The elevator is also stamped with the last two digits only.

Re: The 566-example
The barrel jacket is one of the few parts on an FN that have no markings or inspection stamps. This is likely original to the receiver as condition appears to match . FN and Remington sights may be swapped on round barrel models with no alterations to the gun. Very nice FN you have in you collection.

Re: Broken bolt carrier
I would think the bolt needs to be checked for cracks before firing. This is significant problem and for safety's sake should not be used. Replace the bolt and have this one looked at . LPI ( liquid penetrate inspection) can be done at some machine shops at a reasonable price . This process will ide...

This one is 30 rem and was already drilled for the scope. At first glance it looks like an 81 but it’s not. Someone has installed an 81 stock on this 8 and did it well. The only down side is the bottom tang is too long but it works .

Spectacular to say the least! The "cheeks" and release on the front stock really add style. Moving the safety to the trigger guard also gives it a very modern look of a semi auto. Some one was ahead of the times in designing this work of art.

Mart the last options would,be to change out the sight for another as sometimes the bottom contour differ or hand fit the base of the sight you have to mate with the receiver. I have done both these with good success.
Re: 30-30 rem
Yes this is the same round , but renamed to avoid confusion with the 30-30 wcf rimmed .
Re: 30-30 rem
30-30 Remington for the model 8 not Winchester 1894, I bet there was some upset hunters back then.
