Re: Sling question.

It does help 81Police and thank you!

BTW, your member name caught my attention. I know it's likely related to the Model 81 but MANY years ago I served in the 81st Security Police Squadron overseas and so 81Police stood out to me.

Thanks again for the information.

Re: Identifying the Grade of the Great Model 8?

Thanks for that info 35Rem. I'll have to take a closer look the next time I have it broken down. I have no reason at all to think mine is any particular grade but was simply wondering if there was any sort of identifier built into the design of the rifle clearly designating that or if one would have...

Sling question.

My old Model 8 has the sling loop on the front (of course) but none on the rear nor any sign that there ever was one there. As a result I have never used a sling with this rifle though I would like to for the practicality of it while hunting. Were these designed to have the sling looped around the s...

Re: Who hunts with a 8?

I took a good eating doe last year with mine in .35 Remington. I didn't weigh her but estimate she was in the 140 to 150 lb. area. Knowing that my great-grandfather's old hunting rifle was out there fulfilling it's designed purpose once again was a great feeling. I anticipate carrying it for all my ...

Identifying the Grade of the Great Model 8?

In trying to identify the specific grade of my model 8 is there or should there be a stamp of the grade letter somewhere in particular or do I need to identify the grade by the observable features of the rifle?

Thanks.

Not to doubt this information but I just found the date of 1907 corresponding to my serial number (four digit 327X) per this web page listing:

Thanks.

Re: Greetings from Maine!

Thanks for the welcome everyone. I definitely have a family treasure with a grand history. It's a nice feeling to experience that family connection when I carry this rifle into the woods for deer season!

Re: Greetings from Maine!

I'll try to attach the only photo I have of my Model 8 thus far. I'll apologize ahead of time as it is not the best quality photo. http://i729.photobucket.com/albums/ww292/MaineMarshal/DSCF0895.jpg The ser. # is 327X. I would love to find out more information about it's history (birth date etc.) if ...

Greetings from Maine!

Hello all. I am new to the board and wanted to take a moment to say hello. I own a beautiful (a subjective determination I know) yet aged Model 8 in .35 Rem. that was passed down to me by my father a few years ago. It was originally owned by my great grandfather and has a 4 digit serial # which I wi...
