Hey Crazy Eights! As several mentioned -make it an event. Set some tables so each member can show their fleet. Have a show and tell, parts tables(for me of course), ammo, etc. I am looking for some of the old photos showing deer and Model 8's. I especially like knowing the history of some of these o...

I did not see any info on the 32 barrel. Do you still have it for sale/trade? I don't have much to trade since I only have a few measly ol' humpbacks-one without a barrel. Oh yes, is it a barrel, or a barrel assembly (jacket, springs, etc.)? I have been off the board several years. Just getting to m...

At least two types of rough chambers
I haven't been on the board for some time. When I was on last, about December? of 2010, there was an issue of rough chamber that caused the case to seize. My favorite smithy says there are two types, generally. One is caused by a rough chamber reamer or chip that was pulled up by a chamber reamer. T...

RJSport, I liked your evaluation of the Model 8/81s and agree with you in every respect. Maybe its just me, but these rifles seem to come up and on target quicker than anything I have ever had in my hands. Yeah, there is some recoil, but I get more recoil out of the bolt action jack handle guns arou...

Wilderness8, I don't have any particular parts store, but I can share with you my way of finding parts. I take a long vacation. Each town I come to, I look for the gun stores and/or sporting goods stores. I found a great Model 81 this way and let an FM slip through my fingers. I found an old, icky g...

Why would one take a .44 when he had a .32 Rem autoloader? There are a lot of very big rattlers in this area, but it was too cool for them to be a problem. As noted in the website, the Model 8 was touted as being a reliable, powerful gun for the Western Hunter when it was intoduced. While I have a M...

What a hunt! :D The old girl can do it! One shot just behind the ear at 150 yards (so the guide says-I think it was about 85 to 90 yards). And yes, we used the video and the still camera. I haven't seen the video yet. It took two days of ATV riders, an airplane and three pickup trucks to find them. ...

Hey everyone,
I actually don't feel bad about the silver soldered barrel assembly. The gun is 100% factory, but well used and still pumps them out. It is also a family heirloom, my grandfather having used it since new.

All gunsmiths are not made of the same mental caliber..... I have a Model 8 that had the barrel jacket become loose and a gunsmith silver soldered the barrel jacket to the shroud about 1948. I really do not know the reason it was silver soldered-I was only six at the time. Its quite possible he coul...

Jon Z., I do not consider myself an expert on these guns, but my favorite gunsmith would bet that its a headspace problem. We haven't seen a chamber problem from factory ammo. Check the bolt lugs for wear where they seat into their recesses in the barrel nut. Also, be aware that these guns were some...

Did the factory stake or rivet the hammer spring screws? The screws on my Model 8's are so tight they won't budge with a screwdriver and they appear to be slightly riveted over. I have soaked them in Kroil and that hasn't helped.
