Re: Grandpa's Model 8 (Disturbing pic)
Don't think the 'improvements' harm the action, but like someone else has already said -- "It's darned ugly". My vote would be to part it out, but that's just me. ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________ The action seems...

Re: Grandpa's Model 8 (Disturbing pic)
I don't know whether to try a fix, or part out the old girl. It's a real shame.
I don't think it would hurt the function, but darn it is ugly like it is.
Need to think on it awhile.
Thanks

Re: Grandpa's Model 8 (Disturbing pic)
I bet if there was any way to come back, grampa would kick junior's butt around the block a couple of times.

Grandpa's Model 8 (Disturbing pic)
Bought this from a young fellow who said it was his Grampa's. It is a 1909 in 35 Rem in pretty good shape for a 102 year old gun. BUT, junior decided to do an inprovement. :( Let me know what you think of my treasure. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v162/avery53/IMG_0474_rs.jpg http://img.photobuc...

Firing Pin Spring
I picked up a Model 8 that bubba got hold of, and in taking it down, I noticed it does not have a firing pin spring.
It dates to 1909. Did they even use the spring in the early ones? The firing pin looks different than the one in my 81.
Thanks

Model 8 Receiver Markings
Out of curiosity, can someone tell me when they started stamping Model 8 on the side of the receiver?

Model 81 Safety Lever Question
Hi, I ran across this nice 81, which I bought. Taking it apart for a thorough cleaning, but the safety lever won't budge while removing it from the receiver. Seems like a very tight fit. Yes, it is pointing down in the correct removal position. :D Bolt to the rear also. I've had a couple apart befor...
